About The Artist

American painter, Molly Dee, was born in Buffalo, New York in 1938. Studying at the acclaimed Albright Knox Art School, she received both her Bachelor and Masters of Fine Arts Degrees from the University of Buffalo.

Old photographs garnered from estate sales, family collections and historical archives are the inspiration for Molly Dee’s large figurative paintings. Her unique style and interpretation of photographic images evolved from the artist’s early fascination with photographs of her own parents, whom she had lost when she was very young.  The result of this intense experience was the beginning of a series of large canvases “Images of the Past”. This body of work became the foundation of her widely acclaimed style of painting.

Molly Dee’s paintings are at once contemporary and nostalgic, specific yet universal. They evoke deep memories and feelings in the viewer. Her work is large in scale and profound in impact, and is widely collected by both individuals and corporations, here and abroad.

Dee’s work has been featured in periodicals including Victoria Magazine, Coastal Living, Hemispheres, United Airlines in-flight magazine and The Review Magazine.  Dee also paints commissions from a client’s own photographic collection.  Molly Dee has said about her work, “I don’t attempt to paint the photographs as they are. Rather, I search and try to transcend time, to look in such a way so they become not just a man or a woman or a child but a faceless pulsation of human emotion.”
